Alstonia Bark

Alstonia Bark is used to reduce fever. In the Far East, it is used for diarrhea and malaria. Alstonia Bark has also been employed as a uterine stimulant and as a remedy for rheumatism.

Reserpine should be avoided during pregnancy, and by those with depression, stomach ulcers, or ulcerative colitis. Since Alstonia Bark contains a small amount of reserpine, you may wish to avoid it under these circumstances. Side effects are a slight possibility, due primarily to Alstonia's reserpine content. They could include nasal congestion, depression, fatigue, impotence, and slowed reaction time. Use caution when handling machinery or driving. Reserpine should not be combined with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (such as Nardil or Parnate), alcohol and barbiturates, digitalis-based drugs (such as Lanoxin), or quinidine products (such as Quinaglute and Quinidex, levodopa (Sinemet)), and many common flu remedies and appetite suppressants. You may wish to take similar precautions with Alstonia Bark. This information is for educational purposes and should not replace discussions with your doctor.
