Artichoke

Artichoke is used for appetite loss and liver and gallbladder problems. Although it has been proven effective only for the preceding problems, in folk medicine Artichoke is used to treat a variety of digestive problems, prevent the return of gallstones, and speed recovery during convalescence.

Because Artichoke stimulates the flow of bile, do not take this herb if you have a bile duct blockage. Take Artichoke with caution if you suffer from gallstones; you could develop painful spasms. You should also be aware that frequent contact with Artichoke occasionally leads to allergic reactions. If you react badly to Artichoke, you may also suffer a reaction to other plants in its family, including chrysanthemums. This information is for educational purposes and should not replace discussions with your doctor.
