Birch

Birch is used for kidney and bladder stones as well as urinary tract infections. In folk medicine, Birch leaves are also used, combined with other medications, to treat rheumatism, but their effectiveness for this purpose remains unverified. Birch tar is used to treat skin diseases, including scabies.

No known medical conditions preclude the use of Birch leaves. Birch tar is an ingredient in several European ointments and liniments, but because it is thought to contain potentially cancer-causing compounds, it's best to avoid it. Birch leaves should not be used as a remedy for water retention if you have reduced heart or kidney function. When using Birch to flush out the urinary system, be sure to drink plenty of liquids (a minimum of 2 quarts per day). No drug interactions have been reported.
