Black Cohosh

Black Cohosh is used for menopausal disorders and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Black Cohosh has also been used for sore throat, bronchitis, joint pain, fever, insomnia, and snakebite, but its effectiveness for these problems has never been verified.

Do not take Black Cohosh during pregnancy. It can increase the chance of a miscarriage. It's considered best to take this herb for no more than 6 months unless your doctor approves. At customary dosage levels, Black Cohosh poses no risks. Occasionally, it causes stomach discomfort. Black Cohosh is said to amplify the effects of blood pressure medications. Combining it with these drugs could cause excessively low blood pressure. This information is for educational purposes and should not replace discussions with your doctor.
