Bladderwrack

Bladderwrack is used for high cholesterol and hardening of the arteries, indigestion, excess weight, and insufficient thyroid, but its efficacy has not been scientifically verified.

Because the amount of iodine in the plant is highly variable, its use is no longer recommended. High dosages of iodide (over 150 micrograms per day) can induce or worsen an overactive thyroid. Allergic reactions are also a possibility. No drug interactions have been reported. This information is for educational purposes and should not replace discussions with your doctor.
