Bloodroot

Bloodroot is used for gingivitis. Once a popular cough medicine, Bloodroot is now valued primarily for its ability to prevent dental plaque and gum disease. An extract of the herb is found in many toothpastes and mouthwashes.

No known medical conditions preclude the use of Bloodroot. Doses of 300 milligrams or more cause vomiting; in fact, the herb was once used for this purpose. Higher doses are poisonous. No drug interactions have been reported. This information is for educational purposes and should not replace discussions with your doctor.
