| Chondroitin is used for osteoarthritis. Although many doctors demand further evidence,
there's no longer any question that Chondroitin has provided relief to at least some
arthritis sufferers. It is said to ease joint pain, reduce inflammation, and even repair
the damaged cartilage that cushions the joints. Because of its beneficial effect on
connective tissue, Chondroitin has also been used to treat torn ligaments and tendons. And
some advocates suggest that it can relieve the pain of gout, cure headaches, relieve
respiratory ailments and allergies, hasten wound healing, prevent cancer, improve
cardiovascular health, and stave off the effects of aging. For these many additional
claims, however, there is still no solid scientific evidence. |
| Unless your doctor approves, do not give any preparation containing Chondroitin to children
under 2 years of age. Children between the ages of 2 and 6 can usually take as much as 10
grams of Chondroitin per day without side effects. Although Chondroitin contains sugar
molecules, it is considered safe for diabetics. Consult your physician before taking
Chondroitin if you are taking an anticoagulant drug such as Coumadin, or if you have a
blood clotting disorder. Chondroitin may interfere with the action of prescription and
nonprescription drugs, herbal preparations, and nutritional supplements. If you are using
any of these preparations, talk to your doctor before taking Chondroitin. This information
