Colchicum

Colchicum is used for gout and Mediterranean fever. Colchicum, which can be extremely poisonous, is used only for these two conditions--and primarily for gout. Mediterranean fever, a painful infection usually contracted from unpasteurized milk products or direct contact with farm animals, can be cured with a combination of antibiotics.

Do not use Colchicum during pregnancy. To avoid toxic effects, take Colchicum only at recommended dosage levels and for limited periods of time. Long-term use can cause kidney and liver damage, hair loss, nerve inflammation, muscle diseases, and bone marrow damage. No drug interactions have been reported.
